The Central Medical Record Technician will be a critical member of the Field Services team, supporting multiple markets across the organization.  The position will be responsible for obtaining external medical records from community providers through a combination of outreach to provider offices and searching online electronic databases.  The technician will also be responsible for conducting centralized initiatives for the Field Services Department related to Quality operations, Risk Adjustment operations, and medical record collection. This role requires technical proficiencies and the ability to apply critical thinking to a variety of systems, platforms, and technologies.


This position is full-time, Monday – Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 8:00am – 4:30pm.

Primary Responsibilities:
Perform outreach to provider offices, clinics, and hospitals to obtain medical records to help support market activities related to patient care, quality, and risk adjustment
Access remote Electronic Health Records systems to obtain patient records while adhering to HIPAA regulations and external system rules
Process incoming records according to standard procedures, including renaming, splitting files, scanning paper documents, processing external storage devices, categorizing, and uploading records
Perform quality reviews of retrieved medical records to determine completeness and accuracy as well as basic reviews of records to identify risk adjustment and/or quality targets
Market Support including communicating with market team members and leadership

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
Ability to work our normal business hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday – Friday
Preferred Qualifications:

MA certification or experience as a Medical Assistant in a physician office setting
Telecommuting Requirements:

Reside within Central Time zone
Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service


Soft Skills:

Experience working in a rapidly growing company or division with geographically dispersed business units and/or customer service experience is a plus
Experience working with cross-functional teams and influencing without authority
Proven track record demonstrating leadership skills, critical thinking, proactive operational excellence, and problem solving
