This position is full-time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 6:00am – 3:30pm CST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Travel within the service area to perform medical record reviews as needed
  • Conduct research in order to define suspects
  • Perform chart reviews based on suspects to recover diagnoses not coded
  • Evaluate and communicate documentation and coding deficiencies in provider records
  • Conduct chart reviews to validate data accepted by CMS
  • Maintain professional relationships with physicians and/or staff
  • Maintain work calendars and comply with all internal processes
  • Understand and keep up to date with Risk Adjustment and ICD-10-CM Guidelines
  • Set priorities for own work assignments and uses initiative in completion of tasks
  • Participate in auditing projects as assigned
  • Assist in training new members of the coding team
  • Assist in special projects as directed
  • Perform any other tasks as requested by the Director or Managers

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
  • 3+ years of experience working in Medical Coding
  • Coding Certification (CPC)
  • Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word (create correspondence & work within templates), Microsoft Excel (ability to sort, filter & create simple spreadsheets), Outlook (ability to retrieve emails, access calendar & schedule meetings)
  • Ability to work full-time between 6:00am – 3:30pm CST including the flexibility to work occasional overtime given the business need

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coding Certification (CCS-P)

  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
